Stanhope fall Short
Stanhope versus Tantobie 7th June 2008
Talking to the residents of Tantobie this is unheard of two Saturdays on the trot the sun has been shining on the cricket green. It must be the travelling team of Stanhope who bring the sunshine with them.
Captain Simon Campbell won the toss and decided to put Tantobie into bat. Adam Robinson and Richie Pringle were to open the bowling for Stanhope. The opening batsmen for Tantobie were G Petre & D Proud and batted well for the first couple of overs. Adam Robinson struck in his third over with a beautiful delivery clean bowling D Proud for 1 run. R Gibson was the next batsman to the crease and supported G Petre well for the next 9 overs. Gloves Stephenson took a beautiful catch in the 12th over taking the wicket of R Gibson behind the stumps off the bowling of Richie Pringle. G Craig came to the crease and with the support of G Petre proceeded to hit the ball cleanly producing a healthy fifty partnership before Simon Campbell claimed his wicket with an LBW decision from the umpire. After 23 overs Tantobie were 94 for 3 wickets producing a good steady platform to move the innings on. Adam Robinson was to be the main strike bowler on the day and started with a 10 over stint before been replaced by Simon Campbell. Support bowling was also supplied by Rob Young & Andrew Kitching who struggled to gain any wickets. G Craig was to produce the innings of the day with some cracking stroke play finishing his stint with 54 runs before been clean bowled by Adam Robinson. His innings comprised of 1 six and 9 fours and a health scattering of ones and twos. Other notable innings for Tantobie were 25 runs for M Taylor and 20 runs for D Brown.
Stanhope’s notable bowlers were Adam Robinson with 15 overs for 64 runs with 6 wickets and 1 maiden, Simon Campbell with 7 overs for 25 runs with 2 wickets and 1 maiden and Richie Pringle 9 overs for 39 runs with 1 wicket and 3 maidens. Extras added 22 runs to the total. Tantobie had set a stiff score of 189 runs off 40 overs.
It was up to Paul Fitchett and Rob Young to get Stanhope of to a good start. The opening partnership lasted for 11 overs and produced 57 runs before Paul was clean bowled by G Craig for 19 runs. Steven Muse took to the crease to support Rob. Rob Young’s wicket was the next to fall with a catch to Tantobie’s wicket keeper A Hunter of the bowling of G Craig. The bowling partnership of D Brown & G Craig was proving hard to score runs off with a mixture of pace and accuracy. Eddie Rowell was going to be G Craig’s next victim with a lovely caught and bowled decision for no runs. Simon Campbell was next to the crease and with Steve managed to move the score on to 103 runs after 26 overs Steve Muse was clean bowled by S Fairish for 19 hard fought runs. Simon Campbell put together a hard fought total of 15 runs. Frankie Stephenson and Ian Smith managed to add 10 runs between them. Adam Robinson & Richie Pringle put in a determined late effort to keep the scoreboard ticking over. One item worthy of mention being Richie is not noted for his running prowess but was showing Adam a thing or two; with a whisper in Adams ear that he should be at the other end and not stood beside him. However with Tantobie smelling the chance of success the fielding had dropped back to the boundaries to prevent the scoring of fours. Adam did manage to find a couple of gaps with 2 well struck fours in his total of 18 runs. Richie managed to score 13 laboured runs before been the only D Brown victim of the day. Ian Muse and Andrew Kitching managed to score 3 runs between them leaving Stanhope 16 runs behind Tantobie on 173 all out.
Tantobie’s notable bowlers were G Craig 16 overs for 60 runs with 6 wickets and 1 maiden, S Fairish with 11 overs for 53 runs with 2 wickets and 3 maidens. D Brown the hero of last week did not have a very lucky afternoon ending with figures of 11 overs for 37 runs with 1 wicket and no maidens. Extras added 44 runs to the total
Stanhope’s downfall was sealed with a good, if at times erratic, bowling attack from Tantobie. It is yet another cup game and hopefully winning game for Stanhope as they play play Hunwick on Thursday night at Unthank Park in the Glenn Pattison Cup.
